How Does It Work?
The customer typically contracts with the utility company or curtailment provider to reduce demand during the peak months and times. Once an energy analysis is done to determine the true energy demand of a project, we start to look at ways to temporarily and/or permanently reduce demand and energy consumption.
These demand reductions can come from; turning off non-critical equipment, shifting loads to off-peak times (night), on-site generation, capital energy conservation projects and/or renewable energy projects.
The utility or curtailment provider will either notify the personnel at the project or interface directly with the project's energy management system via the internet to initiate the demand reduction sequence. The contract typically allows for a maximum of 6 curtailment events per year at 6 hours per occurrence.
