USGBC® LEEDs®

What is GREEN?

"Green" has become the term representing the development and management of sustainable sites and buildings. Green buildings are environmentally responsible, economically profitable and healthy places to live and work.

Who is USGBC®?
The US Green Building Council was formed by the EPA and US Government to define and promote Green concepts and administer the LEED Program.

What is LEED®?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a performance oriented system where points are earned for satisfying defined criteria.

Levels of LEED Certifications?
By earning points in five defined environmental categories and a special category for innovation, a building can achieve one of the four LEED levels of excellence. Certification can be obtained for New Construction or Existing Buildings under separate LEED programs.

LEED Certified Level 26 - 32 points
LEED Silver Level 33 - 38 points
LEED Gold Level 39 - 51 points
LEED Platinum Level 52+ points (69 possible)

What are the Six Environmental Categories?

Sustainable Sites - Develop appropriate sites using best practices by protecting and restoring natural and agricultural areas.

Water Efficiency - Reduce the quantity of potable water needed for building, site and water treatment burden.

Energy and Atmosphere - Optimize energy efficiency and building systems performance, support ozone protection protocols and encourage renewable and alternative energy sources.

Materials and Resources - Reduce the amount of new materials needed and use materials that have less environmental impact and can be purchased locally. Reduce and manage waste.

Indoor Environmental Quality - Establish good air quality by eliminating or managing indoor pollutants. Ensure thermal comfort and a connection to the outdoor environment.

Innovation & Design Process - Develop innovative designs that help the overall environment. Project managed by LEED Accredited Professional and Green Advantage Certified Contractors.
